3.30.16 – GOP Townhall and Parental Alienation with HausGuest Eric Farris

This was perhaps the most widely disparate show so far – a little entertainment, some politics, and then some VERY personal stuff.

I started talking about the Donald Trump / Cory Lewandowski / Michelle Fields affair and this GENIUS meme that’s floating around:Screen Shot 2016-03-30 at 8.00.42 PM

Listen to the entire show here:

Today’s HausGuest was my friend Eric Farris. With a background as a trained lawyer and a political talkshow host, we (surprisingly) didn’t discuss anything related to those topics at all.

We talked about the issue of parental alienation in the wake of a messy divorce. Given the percentages of divorce, I expect that it’s a topic that would, at least, be something relatable to by many or, at best, something square in the middle of what some other unfortunate person was dealing with in their own life.

Eric and I share wildly similar stories and backgrounds – with respect to the breakup of our marriages (his after 19 years and mine after almost 24) and the subsequent difficulties related to our children (he has 4 and I have 5).

Both of us have ex spouses that have worked extremely hard to imprint strikingly negative narratives about us. The impact has been very painful and problematic. Eric’s story is worse and has done a lot of groundwork exploring the issue of parental alienation – books, counselors, legal advice etc.

For me, I knew exactly what was going on in my life and pretty much had no idea that it was actually something dealt with by many.

Eric recommended this book:Screen Shot 2016-03-30 at 5.12.23 PM

Based upon the feedback already received about the segments, I’ll definitely have Eric on again to revisit the issue.

Other topics:

  1. HBO is doing a movie about Anita Hill and – surprise surprise – it’s trying to rewrite history. And the timing is NOT accidental. confirmation_still
  2. Donald Trump told us what are the 3 most important functions of the federal government: national security, education, and healthcare. And in so doing proved beyond all reasonable doubt that he is NOT a conservative:
  3. His defense of his attacks on Ted and Heidi Cruz drew the funniest line of the GOP Townhall from Anderson Cooper: “But, sir, with all due respect, that’s the argument of 5-year-old.”
