TONS of stuff to talk about and nowhere NEAR enough time to do so.

Constitutional Sound Bites with David Shestokas
After correcting the mistaken assertion by the White House that the Department of Justice is independent from the Administration (it is NOT) in the context of l’affaire ClintonEmailGate, David focused the conversation on the Declaration of Independence and its essential connection to the Constitution. They share a common foundation: the rights of the individual supersede and precede the government.
Fun side note: In response to a new Louisiana law that requires students to recite the Declaration of Independence, state lawmaker Barbara Norton objected because it’s “racist.” David sent her a copy of his book “Constitutional Sound Bites” with a note explaining why she is totally wrong.

HausGuest #1 – Paty Newman
Paty and I primarily discussed the dramatic impact that Obamacare has had on the San Diego County-based medical offices that she and her husband run. Most significantly, their refusal to make public their clients’ health records will result in a substantial reduction in reimbursement rates. It will likely also yield increased regulatory scrutiny. This may ultimately force them to concentrate on concierge-style cash-only services or even get out of the business altogether.
We also concluded with a brief talk about Trump’s claim that Mexico will be paying for a wall on our southern border. As most of Paty’s family lives in Mexico and she is a passionate defender of legal-only immigration, her perspective and opinion is extraordinarily well informed.
HausGuest #2 – Scott Hounsell
Scott and I discussed the state of the Republican party. As the President of a political consulting company and the former executive director of the Republican Party of Los Angeles County, he REALLY knows what he’s talking about. His big concern: downticket Republican candidates. The strong anti-Trump sentiment could result in large numbers of Republicans staying home and that could have significant ill effects.
- Bernie is NOT getting out despite Hillary winning 4 of 6 states and having far more than enough delegates
- Trump won all 5 states – but not with as high of a percentage as one would think, given he’s now unopposed
