With three exceptions, it was a GOP Convention-heavy show:
Here were the exceptions:
- Game of Thrones announcement:
- Is Roger Ailes OUT at Fox?
- Over-policing (a far more substantial topic than #1):
HausGuest #1 – Larry O’Connor
Larry’s in Cleveland – he had some comments and insights on the convention and some of the frabbajabba that occurred yesterday. He also weighed in on the Roger Ailes controversy — he thinks there’s NO way Ailes is going to be booted.
HausGuest #2 – John Daniel Davidson
John writes at The Federalist, on of my favorite sites, and is ALSO in Cleveland covering the convention.
On Monday morning, John published an article headlined “Cleveland is the End of the GOP as We Know It” and this was the closing paragraph:
“In actual democracies like ours, we don’t need actual putsches. But political parties must sometimes go through refining fires. Now comes the fire for the GOP. May it burn as long and as hot as it must. The country depends on it.”
After yesterday’s weird voice vote over convention rules, John not only didn’t change his opinion, he now regrets not using even STRONGER language.
After discussing the convention, we talked about the implications of over-policing and the ever-present-threat of violence when the state’s coercive actions interact with the public (link above)
- D-list Hollywood stars and Melania’s speech:
- Rudy Giuliani gave a PASSIONATE speech:
- And Sheriff David Clarke hit a home run:
