Dear Senator Sanders, the look on your face during Hillary’s victory lap was well-shared on social media and the press:
— Lynne Patton (@LynnePatton) July 29, 2016
But why so dour? YOU were the real victor in the Democratic Presidential campaign. Of course, you were not the top vote-getter – which we now know was predetermined from the start – but you won the war of ideas. Your desire to turn the party’s agenda and platform towards full-on Marxism-Statism-Progressivism-Leftism has been fully realized. It’s time to celebrate!
Five different points from H-Rod’s speech prove it:
“There is Too Much Inequality”
The Declaration of Independence asserts that citizens have the right to pursue happiness, and within that is the assumption that people have the liberty to freely choose whatever paths they would like. There is no guaranty of result, and Hillary now wants to turn that on its head. By saying “there is too much inequality,” she is asserting that the government should control and influence outcomes.
Toward the end of the speech, she said that “every generation of Americans has come together to make our country freer, fairer, and stronger,” but it’s a word game she’s playing. Fairness for her isn’t equality of opportunity, and it’s in direct conflict with the word “free.” It’s the exact opposite of free. And this is precisely what you’ve been advocating for decades.
The Government Replaces “the Kindness of Others”
She said this about her mother:
“My mother, Dorothy, was abandoned by her parents as young girl. She ended up on her own at 14, working as a house maid. She was saved by the kindness of others.”
Dorothy Rodham would have been fourteen in 1933, a time when the vast majority of all social programs were privately instituted. Note that it was “others” who saved her. But there is no room for this type of rescue in the new Democrat America.
An increase in mandated minimum wages and extraordinary workplace regulations make the idea of a 14-year old in the workplace impossible – all under the guise of caring. The kindness of others will be crowded out, because the job of the President is to “sweat the details of (social) policy.” Again, this is in perfect alignment with your vision.
Government is Central to a “More Perfect Union”
Corrupting the words from the Preamble of the Constitution, she said “Tonight, we’ve reached a milestone in our nation’s march toward a more perfect union.” The context of the phrase, when written, was to express a joining together of the states in a way that would be superior to the failed Articles of Confederation. In ratifying the Constitution, the union of states WAS perfected at that time.
Obviously, that’s not what she’s talking about at all. She’s implying that the process of perfecting the country includes its political leadership, and that having only males as its head for the last 227 years has been a significant stain upon it. In other words, it’s not about the people and the natural rights the government is to secure on their behalf, but about the people in the government itself. Changing the meaning of words is essential for a successful revolution. You do that almost every time you open your mouth.
Commerce and Business Are Mere Tools of the State
Business will now have to “share profits with their workers,” pay “their fair share of taxes,” “make it easier to get credit,” and be “patriotic in return.” Regardless of the word-varnish, this is all means it will be private profit for public gain. It’s precisely the Marxist economic theory to which you adhere and it firmly puts the marketplace in the role of servant to the government master.
Utterly ignored in this, of course, is the stifling of individual incentive and personal creativity. Also ignored is the massive opportunity for cronyism and insider-dealing. Stealing from Peter to give to Paul may have its “selfless” political appeal, but the thief will always make sure to take their slice, as well. As overlooking real-world consequences is something you’re extremely comfortable doing, just continue to focus on the big win.
The Government is the Source of Economic Activity
The “in my first 100 days, we will work with both parties to pass the biggest investment in new, good-paying jobs since World War II” line should be your dream come true. Although the government makes and produces nothing and only has money that is either confiscated or borrowed (which is just confiscation from the future), calling it an “investment” is brilliant. For years, you’ve asserted that if the government uses a big enough bucket, taking water from one end of a pool and dumping into the other WILL increase its depth.
Though money taken for government’s end can no longer be used in other ways, it’s a preferable trade off. Directed activities are far preferable to freely chosen ones. One can even imagine that if mere job creation is the goal, President Clinton could simply ban farm equipment or insist that all earth-moving projects be completed with plastic sporks.
This list isn’t exhaustive, of course, as she also mentioned free college, social justice, climate change, a constant dismissal of individualism in favor of the collective, and much more. Although Hillary will be the leader of this new world, she has you to thank for how it will unfold. America’s destiny won’t be the result of the self-interested decisions by its once-free population, it will be because of what the Right People have chosen for them. And it’s exactly what you’ve been wanting.
You should be the happiest man alive. Congratulations!
