Every single Republican on the Senate Judiciary Committee signed a letter to Majority Leader McConnell, telling him that they won’t hold hearings on any Obama nominee to the Supreme Court.
Here’s an excerpt from the letter:
The final sentence:
“Because our decision is based on constitutional principle and born of a necessity to protect the will of the American people, this Committee will not hold hearings on any Supreme Court nominee until after our next President is sworn in on January 20, 2017.”
White House spokesmouth Josh Earnest whined:
“This would be a historic and unprecedented acceleration of politicizing a branch of government that’s supposed to be insulated from politics.”
So did former Majority Leader Harry Reid:
“The Senate, the world’s greatest deliberative body? They’re not going to deliberate at all. It appears that Senator Grassley’s going to follow through on this plan. He will go down in history as the most obstructionist Judiciary chair in the history of our country.”
Some closing thoughts:
- Robert Bork
- Elections matter
- Karma is a bitch
