Elizabeth Slattery researches and writes on the rule of law, civil rights, and the First Amendment as a legal fellow in The Heritage Foundation’s Edwin Meese III Center for Legal and Judicial Studies. She also focuses on separation of powers, equal protection under the law, and the scope of provisions in the Constitution such as the commerce clause and the recess appointments clause.
In addition, Slattery analyzes cases before the Supreme Court, judicial nominations, and the proper role of the courts. She manages the Meese Center’s appellate advocacy programs, including moot court sessions to prepare litigators for oral argument in important cases pending before the Supreme Court.
Slattery’s commentaries have appeared in The Washington Times and The Washington Examiner, as well as outlets such as National Review Online, Fox News, The Daily Signal, The Daily Caller, and U.S. News & World Report.
Born Elizabeth Garvey in Omaha, Neb., she grew up in Louisville, Ky. She is a graduate of the George Mason University School of Law and holds a bachelor’s degree in history from Xavier University. She and her husband, Brian, reside in Silver Spring, Md.
